GMB has over 25,000 Shop Stewards or Union Representatives in the workplace.

These are directly elected by their work colleagues and GMB members, and form the frontline of the Union. Many workplaces also have a Health and Safety Representative and a Union Learning Rep. Large workplaces often have a Senior Union Rep known as the Convenor.

Workplace representatives are the members’ first port of call for advice and assistance as they will have specific knowledge of what is happening within any particular workplace at any given time.

The GMB provides all Union Representatives with extensive training and support to ensure they get the back-up they need.
